The wines of Château Léoville Poyferré are first distinguished by their considerable aromatic complexity ranging from red fruits, such as cherry, to mushroom for older vintages.
Thanks to its terroir, Léoville Poyferré displays a magnificent balance between alcohol, acidity and tannins. The wine develops a sumptuous velvet quality in addition to plenty of elegance and finesse, altogether with a very great potential for aging.

Bright ruby-red. Spicy, perfumed aromas of black cherry, licorice, minerals and graphite, along with a whiff of medicinal austerity. Racy and vibrant on entry, then sweet, dense and ripe, with impressive thickness of texture, breadth and inner-mouth flavor. Complex tannins broaden out on the finish and coat the palate. Offers impressive intensity and grip, and a subtle aftertaste. Steve Tanzer 90 points (May 2004)
Sweet notions of plums, black currants, caramel, and spicy oak are provocative and alluring. Subtle but substantial, layered, and textured, with medium body as well as sexy, up-front flavors, low acidity, and ripe tannin, this beauty is among the most evolved and flamboyant of the appellation. Nevertheless, it should age well. Anticipated maturity: now-2016.
