A winery helping their community, the earth, and producing a fantastic Bonarda. Not familiar with the grape? This is one certainly worth trying and a producer worth supporting. Montlaiz is a family winery founded in 1904 in Mendoza, Argentina. The wines are made with organic grapes grown at the foothill of the Andes mountains. Montlaiz has a strong social commitment, helping farmers and associated employees obtain better working conditions with Fair Trade certification. The winery also measures CO2 to mitigate their footprint, replacing their energy consumption matrix by photovoltaic generation systems that allow them to process 100% of raw material using solar energy. The grapes are sourced from their own vineyards located in Mendoza. Additionally, they have formed an association of organic producers that they accompany in the organic and Fair-Trade certification processes, assisting them technically and economically to achieve a strong social bond with them. This allows them to increase their production volume and add other prominent regions to our portfolio. Bonarda is second to Malbec in Argentina’s vineyard acreage. When vinified, Argentinian Bonarda can produce a range of styles. It can be a light-bodied wine with cherry and plum flavors, light tannins and moderate acidity; or, if produced from old vines, it can be full-bodied with dense tannins, a prune-like concentration and oak tones. This one is very aromatically complex with bright red berry fruits, cherries, plum, fig, and cardamon pod with hints of chocolate smoke. A vibrant palate turns to darker red/black fruits which carry through to a clean finish with good depth and structure for its medium-light body. |
