Decanter: 94 Points
From a parcel of nearly 1ha of mature vines in the white marl soils at the top of the hill above the Rousseau holding. 30% whole clusters are fermented very gently, yet yield a wine of impressive concentration and massive structure, with ripe blackberry fruit of a firmly mineral cast. The balance of tannin, extract and fresh acidity carry this to a lingering, sultry finish. Drinking Window 2024 - 2039.
Vinous: 92-94 Points
The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru, which apparently suffered a lot of millerandage, shows a little reduction on the nose, but it clearly possesses fine mineralité underneath with flinty/granitic aromas percolating through. The palate is very well balanced with succulent ripe tannins, fleshy and very elegant with black pepper towards the finish. Excellent.
Burghound: 91-94 Points
A much earthier and less elegant but even more complex nose displays notes of the sauvage, red and dark berries, newly turned earth, humus and a hint of exotic tea. There is excellent size, weight and punch to the tautly muscular bigger-bodied flavors that possess a bracing salinity on the impressively long finale. This is textbook Cazetiers and built-to-age.
