The 2012 Pinot Noir Zio Tony Ranch, fashioned from Dijon clones 115, 777, 828, Calera and a California selection, exhibits a dense ruby color along with a more tightly-knit, structured character, pomegranate and red fruit aromas and flavors intermixed with notes of roasted herbs, underbrush and a touch of new oak (it sees 70% new). The most backward of these 2012 Martinelli Pinot Noirs, it should be consumed between 2016 and 2026.

Aromas of dark berries and cherry, with a floral quality adding lift. Cherry-cola and black raspberry flavors show very good depth and are nicely braced by a hint of bitter blood orange. Seems the richest of this set of pinots but it's actually the lowest in alcohol, at 14.7%. Closes smooth and long, with building spiciness and a flourish of vanillin oak.
