The Rincon Vineyard is located about eight miles east of the Pacific Ocean adjacent to the historic Rincon Adobe and Talley Vineyards winery. The east-west orientation of Arroyo Grande Valley channels the cool marine air to the vineyard, assuring a long, cool growing season. Planted in 1983 and 1984, the vines are grown on predominantly south facing slopes. The shallow, welldrained soils, reminiscent of those found in Burgundy’s Côte d’Or, are alkaline in nature and comprised mainly of calcareous clay. The distinctive attributes of this site—cool climate, steep hillsides and low-yielding soils—combine to produce complex, richly textured wines that are concentrated, yet elegant.
More sweet and forward than its siblings, with bright raspberry, crushed berries, flowers and spice, the 2012 Pinot Noir Rincon Vineyard is medium-bodied, supple and loaded with fruit. Aged 18 months in 30% new French oak, it? one of the more forward, sexy and fruit-loaded Pinot Noirs in the lineup. Drink this beauty over the coming 4-5 years, although I wouldn? be surprised to see it evolve nicely for longer.
Talley's 2012 Pinot Noir Rincon Vineyard is a gorgeous wine. Rose petal, mint, anise and sweet spices all lift from the glass as the 2012 opens up. The Rincon plays across all dimensions; with striking depth, density and resonance, all supported by ripe, silky tannins. Bright and beautifully articulated through to the finish, the 2012 has a lot to offer. The inclusion of 30% whole clusters lends precision and lift throughout. What a beautiful and exquisite wine this is.
