The 2011 Barolo Bricco Ambrogio is showing very nicely. The vintage warmth has added to the plushness, richness and darkness of the wine. In terms of aromas, the bouquet veers towards balsam notes with grilled rosemary and medicinal herb that make bright, fleeting appearances. But it also reveals generous tones of dark blackberry fruit. The wine reaches a good place of balance and never feels over the top.

The 2011 Barolo Bricco Ambrogio is soft, and juicy to the core. Dark red and black stone fruits, leather, smoke, tobacco and incense open up in a pliant, textured Barolo that expresses the full generosity of the year. Scavino has only made the Bricco Ambrogio for about a decade. So far, this site seems to yield relatively soft, fruit-forward Barolos. There is a lot to like in the 2011's inviting personality.
