94-96pts Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy:
Rich purple, heady but delicious, this is both exceptionally intense and very lively. Huge weight behind, but the fruit is more red than black with good acidity. Plenty of punch, good tannins, concentrated, and with some finesse. “Always ripe and always acid” Jean-Nicolas tells me.
A domaine-owned parcel at the foot of the slope in Nuits, just on the border with Vosne, and with an average age of more than 50 years, yielding a wine with dark fruit and plenty of perfume. This is a bit closed on the initial attack, but opens up with time to show an expressive, subtle side, with a velvety texture and rewarding length on the palate. Drinking Window 2024 - 2039.
The 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Murgers is showing particularly well—just like its 2018 predecessor at the same stage of its élevage. Wafting from the glass with aromas of raspberries, wild berries, rich soil tones, spices and grilled meats, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, with lively acids, beautifully refined tannins and a charming, gourmand profile.
The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Murgers 1er Cru is very different from the Les Boudots, featuring vibrant red rather than black fruit and fine delineation; the essence of Pinoté in a glass. There is something carefree about the aromatics. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. Silky-smooth and Vosne-like in style, revealing touches of dark chocolate and candied orange peel toward the sustained finish. This is going to be irresistible once in bottle. Superb.
Discreet wood sets off ripe and decidedly sauvage-inflected aromas of both red and dark berries that display spicy top notes. There is excellent volume and a beguiling texture to the delicious and sappy large scaled flavors that flash good muscle and power on the serious, youthfully austere and well-balanced finale. This wine always ages well and the 2019 version should too. *Burghound Outstanding!*
